Team Fisher House and the 2019 NYC Marathon
It's that time again. After taking a year off I am running another marathon this year. And as I have done 3 times before, I am running for the wonderful military charity Fisher House Foundation. I first ran for Fisher House in 2012 when I ran my first marathon, The Marine Corps Marathon. I then ran for them again in 2014 and 2015 in the same marathon. This year I am running for them again, but this time in the NYC Marathon. I feel very honored to represent this great organization in this race as they only have 5 race bids for this marathon. We're a small team in this race, but we bring a huge message of awareness to this marathon.
As many of you may already know, Fisher House Foundation provides free housing for our military veteran families when a veteran is ill or injured and requires care at one of our Nation's many military hopsitals and VA Medical Centers. These are comfort houses right on the base or next to the medical center where family members stay in order to be close to their loved one to help them recover quickly. The family members are able to stay at these Fisher Houses as long as needed and are able to return to the houses as often as necessary. This is a huge aid to our injured veterans as having the love and support of family with them while they are treating and recovering is known to positively impact them in their recovery. And don't just take my word for it. Here is what I was personally told by 2 marines when I completed my first Marine Corps Marathon in 2012. I had just completed the race and was in line to collect my finishers medal. The 2 marines servicing my line noticed my Fisher House gear as I approched them and they made a point of thanking me for running for Fisher House. They were very familiar with the great work they do for our military families. They told me about a buddy of theirs who was wounded while serving in Iraq and how he raved about how much Fisher House meant to him and his family and his overall recovery. These marines personally thanked me again for running for Fisher House and then they both saluted me. Needless to say they brought tears to my eyes.
I hope you will consider making a donation to Fisher House on my behalf. I need to raise $2,500.00 to remain on the team. Any donation amount will help. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about Fisher House and the great work they do for our veterans. And know that Fisher House has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator 15 years in a row and an A+ rating from CharityWatch/American Institute of Philanthropy.
I personally thank you for your support.
