David Howard Carlton Invitational - 2020 Fund
In 1999, Pat Stewart, Keith Coultrap & Joe Carlton started a golf tournament, originally named the Greater Goose Pond Open (GGO) at Goose Pond Colony GC in Scottsboro, AL for friends and friends of friends to gather annually, compete in a scramble-format tournament (for BIG prize money) and talk smack. Over the years, Joe’s dad (Howard Carlton) and brother (David Carlton) became strong supporters of the annual event. One year, Howard suggested the tournament be renamed to the Greater Goose Pond Invitational (GGI) to more accurately reflect how the golf tournament had evolved. Both Howard and David were in the military, David in the Army and Howard in the Air Force. Howard passed away in January 2017. David (1984 Soldier of the Year) lost a tough battle with cancer at age 57 in March 2018.
At last year's tournament (July 6, 2019), we announced a second name change for the event starting in 2020 to the 'David Howard Carlton Invitational (DHCI)’ and collected money from the participants to be donated in memory and honor of David & Howard Carlton to a charity of the family's choice. The family chose the Fisher House Foundation based on their strong support of military families and their connection to the game of golf. Our goal is to collect funds via this website each year and at the annual DHCI tournament to honor and remember these two fine men, soldiers, friends, fathers & brother.
2020 DHCI Event Date – November 7, 2020 at Goose Pond Colony Lake Course in Scottsboro, AL.
Please make a donation here before December 31, 2020 to contribute to the 2020 DHCI fund.
