The Phoenix Bass Masters Story
The Phoenix Bass Masters are a small but active bass fishing club, in Phoenix AZ. We formed in 1991 and incorporated in 1994. Like many organizations, we suffered mightily in the Great Recession of 2007-2008 but we have twice doubled in size in the past 18 months to more than 40 members and are well on the way to our goal of 60 to 80 active members. We want to remain relatively small because we emphasize fun, camaraderie, education and conservation over competition and a larger profile.
Our funding comes primarily from membership dues, Sponsor donations and prize raffle revenues derived from a public Open Tournament that we hold each August. The Open is limited by federal lake permit to 60 boats, on a first-come, first-served basis. Most of the raffle prizes are donated by Sponsors and members. Our raffle is well known among Arizona bass anglers because of the many valuable prizes that can be won.
Part of our mission is to support providing public fishing opportunities for members and non-members alike. Our tournaments are held from January thru May and September thru November, on some of the better waters around Arizona. Through club meetings, tournaments and participation in various public events, we fundraise for the club and enable donations to two charitable organizations: C.A.S.T. for Kids and Fisher House Foundation. The former provides a day at the lake for underprivileged kids, As for the latter, well, Fisher House needs no introduction from us. It is simply the best, most effective nonprofit organization supporting Veterans, who are among America's most revered first responders, and their families.
