My Fisher House Story
The Fisher Houses provide “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. These homes offer free, temporary lodging to military and veterans’ families, letting them be close to their loved one during a medical crisis and focus on what’s important—the healing process. The Fisher Houses serve more than 30,000 military families each year.
Since 2008, I've been part of "The Breakfast Group", volunteering one Saturday morning a month at the Fisher Houses at Walter Reed Military Medical Center outside Washington DC. In 2015 I was honored to be recognized as a Fisher House Angel, and our group was selected as the National Volunteer of the Year.
In October 2019, I have the privilege to run the USMC Marathon in DC to raise funds for the Fisher Houses. As some of you know, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2015. Training for and running a marathon with a serious neurological disease is tough. Knowing my doing it will help others makes each mile a little easier.
I appreciate your support in helping our military families in their time of need. Donate with confidence: Fisher House has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator 15 years in a row and an A+ rating from CharityWatch/American Institute of Philanthropy.
