When I see a soldier I immediately feel grateful for their service and I am happy to see them home safe and alive. I also think of the many that came home wounded both physically and emotionally and of course, the too many that never made it home at all. On March 21, 2011 my nephew, Sgt. Brandon Hocking was killed in action. Another soldier that never made it home. We buried Brandon at Tahoma National Cemetery on a gray Seattle day on what would have been his 25th birthday.
I told myself when Brandon was killed that he would never be forgotten. The Fallen Hero Benefit is my way of not only honoring Brandon’s memory and service to our country, but helping the thousands of other soldiers and their families in their time of need.
On Saturday July 1st we will hold the 4th Fallen Hero Benefit & Silent Auction. I am requesting an item or service that can be used in our silent auction. At the event we will have a Pulled Pork dinner, split the pot raffle & silent auction. To date we have raised $25,000 for Fisher House Foundation by holding this event.
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
You can make a real difference in the lives of our nation's service members, veterans, and their families when they need it most by donating to Fisher House through the Donate button on the right side of this page.
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, NEVER FORGET!!
Sincerely,
Janine Hocking Beaubien
