Carl E. Rappold
We are very sad to say, our father, Carl E. Rappold, honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, passed away on July 29, 2017. Our family first learned about the Fisher House, a comfort home, as our father's illness progressed and he became terminal. With most of our family having to travel long distances to be with him, this home enabled us to be close to him at all times. The location of this home, on the VA hospital campus, allowed us to freely go back and forth, anytime day or night, and relieved us of the burden and worry of where to stay for the remainder of his illness.
Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by a Veteran who presently runs the Zachery and Elizabeth Fisher House in Albany, NY. He invited us to view the home and encouraged us to make ourselves comfortable. This home included a common area that consisted of a fully stocked kitchen, tv lounge, dining area and a laundry facility as well as private bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. It provided all the comforts of home during this strenuous time. During our stay we were overwhelmed by the support we received from other families that were faced with a battle of their own.
In memory of Carl E. Rappold, and in lieu of any flowers, we invite you to make a contribution to the Fisher House, enabling other Military families in need of these services to receive them in such a difficult time, as our family was able to do.
