Thomas F. Doyle, Jr. was an inspiring family man, community leader, and war hero who made an impact on everyone he met.
Tom served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. In 1944 he flew the B-24 Liberator over Europe and Northern Africa, successfully completing 33 missions.

After World War II, Lt. Tom Doyle was stationed at the Buckingham Army Air Force Base and loved the area so much that he chose to make Fort Myers his home. He partnered with local resident Charles W. Flint and together they created the successful business known as Flint and Doyle which continues today under their two sons. Tom was called back to duty in 1951 during the Korean Crisis. In Korea he was the Air Commander on the B-29 Super Fortress, piloting 30 bombing missions over North Korea. After Korea, he remained in the United States Air Force Reserves flying many freedom missions and retiring as Lt. Colonel Thomas F Doyle Jr. Tom was very proud of his service in the United States Air Force.

He married Lucille B. Schneider (Woodby) in 1951. The couple raised eight children. They enjoyed traveling and took many trips, visiting all 50 states, all ten Canadian provinces, and at least 24 foreign countries including Russia, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and several countries in Europe. Tom and Lucille also enjoyed taking their motor home on trips to Mexico and Alaska. One recurring trip happened every Thanksgiving, when the entire extended family convened on Captiva Island, FL for quality time together and lots and lots of fishing.

At the time of his passing, he left behind his son, Thomas F Doyle III (Donna), six daughters Joyce Schneider Hystad, Candice McInnis, Rosemary Dooley (Michael), Sheila Duffy (Patrick), Patricia Doyle, and Lisa Doyle, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In honor and memory of Tom, members of his family planned the first Thomas F. Doyle, Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament in 2015, and each year's event has benefited the Fisher House Foundation, which helps families of injured veterans during the rehabilitation process. By combining family, fishing and a chance to support our nation's veterans, we at the Thomas F. Doyle, Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament hope to continue the legacy of a truly great man.
