A September Ride for Charity: 3 Days, 200 miles
On September 12, 2019 I will depart from the MarkLogic London office with a group of colleagues and arrive three days later at our Utrecht, Netherlands office. Each person participating has selected a charity to support - - mine will be the Fisher House Foundation.
Fisher House Foundation’s Global Reach and Impact
The Fisher House Foundation provides much needed housing (globally) to families of hospitalized veterans and service members thus “keeping loved ones together during medical care.” They also run a variety of supplemental programs that further support and help during critical times of needs: Hero Miles, Hotels for Heroes, the Fisher Foundation and scholarships.
I am riding in support of the Fisher House to bring additional awareness to this wonderful organization, honor all veterans and service members and hopefully with your help, raise funds to further support their mission.
Ironically fitting: It was recently announced that Fisher House Foundation will be a premier partner for the 2020 Invictus Games with a ride starting in the UK (where there is a Fisher house) and ending in the Netherlands, host of the 2020 Invictus Games. Another reason selecting Fisher house as my charity is the perfect match!
June 6th Fundraising Launch, Why?
I am announcing my participation and fundraising effort today, June 6th, as it’s the 75th anniversary of D-Day. A day where I remember World War II veterans in my life: my Grandfather, my father-in-law (a former POW), as well as my Grandmother who served in the Cadet Nurse Corps stationed at the VA Hospital in Richmond, VA. I dedicate this ride to them and their fellow compatriots.
All of us have at least one special veteran in our life. I am fortunate to have many. Topping that list are my sister and brother-in-law. It is through them that I learned of the Fisher House Foundation and Fisher Family Charities. It was clear that they have a deep respect for this organization and its importance to so many families of injured and ill service members.
Support Comes in Many Ways
As my colleagues and I tackle each mile of our ride, we will do so knowing that with each mile we are helping continue the mission of Fisher House Foundation as well as their chosen charities.
I am grateful for the amazing life and opportunities I have, due to the action and service of so many past and present. It is a privilege to ride in their honor.
While financial support is fantastic, I recognize that not all are able to contribute. Know that any kind words of encouragement and/or sharing of my fundraising link are wonderful and would be much appreciated alternatives.
Donate with Confidence - Fisher House has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator 13 years in a row and an 'A+' rating from CharityWatch /American Institute of Philanthropy.
